CSF Posted May 5, 2004 Share Posted May 5, 2004 Their 40 homers lead the American League and was actually tied with the Cubs for 2nd, but Shammy homered tonight, putting them up by 1. St. Louis leads the league with 42. The Sox are also 20th in the league in strikeouts, meaning free swingers like CLee, Konerko & Olivo are cutting down quite nicely. Sox were near the top in HR in 2003....Finished behind both KC and Min in runs scored and missed the playoffs. The lesson? It's all about RUNS SCORED. The strikeouts are important because with those RISP, those strikeouts cost us precious opportunities to drive in those runs to be scored. Strikeouts are down, walks are up and more RUNS ARE BEING SCORED as a result. As for the home runs, with teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, & Angels all upgrading their teams with major power sluggers, to see the Sox distancing them is a nice thing. Will it last?
