I am pulling for one of our NRI, but I would like to see Jon Rauch as a #5 starter for our 2003 Chicago White Sox.

I say Loaiza get's the job, hopefully Rauch get's brought up after two months to be a full time starter.

We've gotta get Rauch in there and give him a full season. With Buehrle, Colon, Garland, and Wright, we've got 4 pretty good starters. I think we can afford to let JR go through some growing pains. Learning at the big league level is invaluable, and the Sox have to let him come up some time.

Then, if something unfortunate should happen, such as an injury, or Rauch REALLY doing poorly, someone like Loaiza, Heredia, or even Stewart can step in and pick up the slack.

I think the Sox should give Stewart a full season in the minors (either at AA or AAA) so he can get experience for 2004. If Colon departs via free agency (or if the Sox are tanking in July and they trade him to the Yankees), Stewart could be a front-runner for a spot in the rotation in '04.

Youll see my opinion in my upcoming article "The Fifth Element" in a day or two...

I'd have to say Rauch. He put on good performances in all his appearences, except for that dark day when we played Seattle. I was happy with what I saw last season, as little as it was, I was happy with what I saw. I think he would be a great 5th man all season for the White Sox.

Rauch and Stewart will both be in AAA where they should be.

Loaiza or Heredia will be the 5th starter. If whoever wins, pitches well into the season, then Rauch will stay in AAA until someone gets hurt or until September. If the winner falters, then Rauch will get his shot.

There is no need to rush Rauch. The Sox rushed Wells and it hurt him. They rushed Garland and Wright and they are just now getting establised. They were patient with Crede and that move looks like it will work out well.

There is no need for Rauch to learn at the Big League level if this team is fighting for the pennant. If Rauch wins the job by pitching outright, then fine. But why do the same thing to him that they did last year? The 5th starter won't get regular work in April and May. Use a veteran with experience in that slot and let Rauch develop at a more natural pace.

i really dont care who gets the 5th spot has long has they have a .500 rec

Heredia and Loaiza's time is over, and Stewart's time isn't here yet... It's Rauch's time.

I used to argue that rauch should have the 5th spot. But the more i think about it, the more sense it makes that a veteran should have the 5th spot. As Rex said, there really is no need to rush rauch, which could turn out for the worse. If we have a veteran, it'll be veteran, youngster, youngster, youngster, veteran. A veteran would adjust better to not pitching every 5 days. I say we wait till next season, and let rauch pitch every 5 days, to defend our world championship :headbang

If Rauch gets the 5th spot it would actually be hurting him, he'll be pitching more out of the bullpen then as a starter. Rauch needs to pitch every 5th day, so let him get ready in AAA and come June bring him up and if he pitches well keep him up. Like Rex said there's no need to rush him.

I think last year is a lot different then this year. last season they rushed him back from an injury and he didn't have any experience in AAA. This year he's had a full season back, pitched in AAA as well as the majors and had quite a bit of sucess during his second stint with the big club.

I do agree though, if he doesn't earn the job outright, then give him a month or so in AAA.

The #5 starter should be the guy who wins the job in ST. Having said that if Rauch is clearly the best guy out of ST he should still start in AAA until we need the fifth guy to take a regular turn in the rotation.
