Miguel Olivo

Have Sandy "mentor" Miguel, as planned, and give 75-80% of the starts to Miguel.  Of course, if Miguel is hitting .220 with 4 HR and 13 RBI at the end of May, then you're obviously going to have to re-evaluate things.

Clujer, I'll agree with you on this statement, although I would like to see Sandy play more than 20-25% of the games this season.

the only problem with olivo is he is the least prepared mentally on the team at the most important position mentally..if we didnt have colon and were slated for another 500 season it would be a great opportunity to break in olivo and let him gain that knowledge through the mistakes he makes

trading MJ could really haunt us..i would love a lefty -right combo of johnson -olivo...wtf was KW thinking trading away our only experienced catcher when the best he could do to replace him was a well over the hill sandy alomar???...was getting billy koch that important???..i dont think so...

another thing trading MJ did was imcrease the pressure on olivo...dont think he doesnt realize that if he fails our catching hopes ride on a guy that for all practical purposes should have retired by now...with johnson behind olivo he would have alot less pressure on him

hmmmmm least prepared mentally...... so now we all reside inside of miguels head do we...........im tellin ya right now.. if miguel isnt doing fine by the all star game ill give you my seats for each days festivities......ok......now stop with the worry and dissing and leave my boy alone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He won one championship, why not another?

Freaking RELAX people!

Trading MJ allowed for them to bring back Alomar. Alomar was brought back to mentor Olivo and will do well in that role while still handling backup duties solidly.

Alomar is EXACTLY what the Sox need to complement a player that the Sox are committing to. Olivo has earned it. He will be fine. But don't expet 20 HR or 20 SB from him and don't expect him to hit .300 his first year.

No one here is saying Miguel will be an All-Star, but he has a very good chance at being a solid everyday player in the bigs and that is something that the Sox have not had at C in awhile. Who knows, he may even become an All-Star down the road, but that is not relevant this year.

you and cw, rex my other voices of reason.........THANK YOU

he is the least experienced of the 9 starters..no one shows up to play catcher and knows the strength and weaknesses of every major league batter he is gonna face...even buehrle questioned on ESPN radio how well he and miguel would work together...it takes time to develop a catcher..even if that catcher is the next johnny bench...just not a good year for miguel to be thrown to the wolves...why he wasnt brought up in july of last year when the season was toast is beyond my comprehension

all star seats??..nah you keep um..your earned them :)

dont make me drive over and kick your ass............ :D

It's only a fantasy report, but here's what Sports Illustrated had to say about Miguel

Jimenez is also mentioned in there. Good stuff.

dont make me drive over and kick your ass............ :D

after you do..make sure you get your christmas present ok???..its still sitting here all wrapped up:)

I wouldnt doubt to see Sandy catching twice a week. I'll bet he catches Buehrle and Colon.

And Josh Paul should be a bat boy.

RPS, how do you live with yourself being right all the time on baseball?

I think you are right on with your last two posts.

This would make no sense. Mark and Bartolo are going to be the only "veterans" on our staff (yes, Mark is only going to be in his 3rd full season, but he pitches like a guy who's been in the league 10 years). Why would you have a seasoned veteran like Sandy catching them? If anything, it will be the other way around. Having Miguel catch the veterans because they would be easier to work with, and Sandy catching the young guys to help them through tough situations in games.

id rather he go fetch us a beer or two........ i think hes better suited for that kind of labor..........dont want him too close to the field now do we?????? :D

I kind of thought you'd have JP as your cabana boy

It would make sense because Sandy was Mark's personal catcher after MJ left and Sandy caught Colon when he was a rookie with the indians. 2 aces feeling comfortable with their catcher means a lot to a manager. even manuel.

I echo that, RPS. It would seem odd until one looks at the history and the comfort levels - and Olivio can learn watching Sandy handle the aces because in 2004 he will be doing it

We agree a lot on baseball, a lot -

we agree on the joy of being at the Cell -

we agree on the joy of friendships with good people -

we agree that getting blow jobs is really a good thing and not done enough -

we agree that USC should fall into the ocean -

we agree that the pictures you used to send me (hint hint send more) were very funny

and that is off the top of my head!

You are entitled to be wrong on a few things but I note that the offcial color of sarcasm is green and that applies to your leprachon school

I was not aware of the "history", but I stand by what I said. Olivio would learn by watching, yes - but a person learns best by doing. And you can't wait until 2004 to let him do it, because Sandy probably won't be around to help him.

Sandy might not get Mark all the time in games, but i'll bet Sandy catches Colon. He's a former team mate as a rookie and his translator. lol
