kapkomet
Fla. Panthers fire Rick Dudley, a day before his former team plays in the Stanley Cup finals. And, as a former GM of Ottawa, who frankly built that team as well, I think it opens the door for ... Jacque Martin being named BOTH GM and Coach of the Panthers. We'll see. ChiSox_Sonix
i dont know if i like this. Frankly, Dudley didnt do too bad of a job here. Look at all the young players Florida has. As for Martin, he couldnt get it done with an experienced Ottawa squad, so i dont want him taking control of the young and up and coming Panthers. I'd rather they bring in someone else
kapkomet
I think for Fla. he's the perfect guy, in that he implements systems, something that Fla. is lacking terribly. If he would ever display some emotion, Jacque would be better suited. Great systems guy, little emotion, and after dealing with Keenan, that might not be so bad for Fla. kapkomet
To further the thought, I would LOVE IT if they got Larry Robinson (aka NJ Devils old coach). Maybe that is what will happen. But all I know is whoever they name will be both GM and Coach.

kapkomet
Holy s***! From what I now understand, MIKE KEENAN is to be named GM of the Fla. Panthers - and Jacque Martin is the coach. But the last part (Martin as coach) is still up in the air, but it's all but certain about Keenan. What a freakin' JOKE!

I know it was as "coach" but Keenan has always had a big say in personell.
kapkomet
Keenan is still on the Fla. payroll for his coaching contract, and it was a huge contract. I know that the owner and Keenan are very close, and I know that Keenan kept in touch. It sounds to me like Keenan went after a coaching job or two and when that didn't pan out, Keenan went back to Cohen (Fla. owner) and told him to get rid of Dudley and let him make the decisions that should have been made in the first place. This is pretty f'ed up though, it really is.

Spiff
Yeah they still owed Keenan two years worth, so they save money by not having to hire anyone new, heh.
