May 29, 200421 yr Random Thoughts for Now The Pirates vs. Cubs doubleheader on May 28 broke a record. Game 1 became the first game ever to have a pinch-hit grand slam and a walk-off grandslam in the same game. Congratulations to the Cincinatti Reds. They're in first place and looking like the contender that Griffey wanted to be traded to. Paul Wilson is looking like the future Cy Young that the Mets thought he would be. However he might not be the best pitcher in the city. Danny Graves already has 22 saves. So many people including myself thought for sure that Ryan WAgner would be the closer there by the end of the year and now it's looking like everyone's wrong. Other surprising closers include Matt Herges, Armando Benitez, and Jose Mesa. Probably the most surprising was Mesa. Mesa was so inconsistent last year that the Phillies acquired Mike Williams from the Pirates and was forced to trade for Billy WAgner. Maybe just maybe all the booing that the Phillies fans do actually upsets people. Ya think????
May 29, 200421 yr Everyone in the NL Central is playing tough baseball. I hope the Pirates, Reds, and Brewers are able to keep it going.
