My weekend in Seattle...

I went to Saturday's and Sunday's games, and overall I had a good time. There were more Sox fans there than I have ever seen in Seattle. Unfortunately the Sox lost both, making them 0-6 when I see them at Safeco, maybe I shouldn't go anymore. :huh

Mariners fans are very unintelligent when it comes to baseball, it's almost offensive. IE: On Saturday, when Bocachica came to bat, the woman to my left asked her man friend how to pronounce his name. He says "It's BOH-KAY-SHE-UH", she says "What?", then he repeats it. I nearly puked. Yesterday, about 2:30, half-hour before the gates opened, Garland was in the bullpen doing his two-day-after throws. From Royal Brougham street, you can clearly see the bullpen, about 50 feet away. A dude and his chick walk up, both in Mariners garb, and the guy tells the girl that that is Loaiza warming in the pen. I told him that it was Jon Garland, and the guy had never heard of him.

Last night, I set directly behind the point of home plate, 14 rows up. Sweet seats! Shingo kicks ass in the 8th, and I'm praying Ozzie is sensible enough to leave him in. Koch comes in, and I'm a little nervous, naturally, but I think that he'll likely get the job done. Jose makes a nice play for the out on the leadoff hitter, then 6 consecutive guys reach base. :puke I began to hate Koch the person, not just the baseball player. I made eye contact with another Sox fan, and he looks me right in the eye, and says, "I'm going to f***ing kill him". There were Sox fans all over that were shaking their heads and muttering profanity.

About 4 hours later, I arrived home very tired, and still angry. I was stewing over the ninth for quite awhile, and envisioned and furious riot and petition signing over the potential release of Koch and promotion of Shingo. (Yeah right).

I can't imagine that even Capn12 could stand by Koch at this time.

Also, as far as stupid fans go, I was standing next to some guy right behind the Sox dugout last night before the game, and Shingo walked by and dude asked him for an autograph. Shingo didn't look up but rolled a ball across the dugout before I had a chance to grab it. Dumbass didn't know who he was, then I told him his name and that he was the all-time Japanese saves leader. Stupid says, "Not anymore since Kaz went back he is". I says, "are you sure?", and he gives me a confident "yes". My stupid stepbrother, posing as a Sox fan in my middle of the rotation clothes, says "Ooh, Joel! He knows more about baseball than you!" That pisses me off because I pride myself on this game and know more/care more about this game than anyone else I know (besides this wonderful message board).

I told my stupid stepbrother that that guy is full of s***, and I was quite angry.

I can somewhat relate to your experience with lack of baseball knowledge. Coming home from my baseball game tonight, I was in a van full of 7 Cubs "fans". I was the lone Sox fan and heard all about how the Sox are only in first because their division sucks and all that s***. One of the stupid things was a kid argued with me that Borowski is on the DL, he insisted that Joe was not on the DL. Also, they said Hideki Matsui was being traded to the Cubs, and how a potential trade of Vlad and Vidro for Sammy was a bad move. Also, they said Griffey was on the DL and hit his 500th home run last season. I also got punched and abused with parental consent for being a Sox fan and cheering when the Cubs lost. Another thing that is not baseball related was one kid claiming how Diet Coke and regular Coke were the same exact thing.

One more thing I forgot to mention, I said the Mariners wouldn't score 10 runs in the whole series, a very bold prediction. I was right right until the bottom of the ninth last night, the Mariners having scored 8 to that point, then the man whose name we do not speak (Lord Voldemort of Harry Potter style) did what he did, giving them 11 for the series.
