June 9, 200421 yr I was just going to PM, but I think others may be interested, how were the men selected to escort President Reagan's Caisson? I am watching the procession to the Capitol and it is amazing display, the tradition, everything is so moving.

I am watching the procession to the Capitol and it is amazing display, the tradition, everything is so moving. Usually they pick an even number of guys from the honor guards in each service branch. Obviously they take the best they have.
June 10, 200421 yr Author I assume Honor Guard is a requested assignment. Is it the same detail that, for example, guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? I'm not very good at reading insignia but it seemed like there was a mix of enlisted men and officers, is that correct? What are some of the other assignments the Honor Guard would have? How many are in the unit?
