The Sky Is Falling...

Infielders are taught to keep going until the outfielder calls you off the ball. This was all Gload's fault. He was looking not to catch the ball, so Uribe looked bad on the play. Hell, Carl Everett-types catch that ball.

Gload was playing Patterson deep and then at some point he just....stopped.

If he runs at it full-speed, calls off Uribe and the ball is caught.

It was also Uribe’s fault. He should have never gone that far. He should have stayed in his 2B position and leave Gload alone. The picture of Uribe and Gload dropping the ball is all over the place (such as the newspapers). It would have been a lot better if the picture showed Ross by himself.

Uribe did exactly what he was supposed to do. Gload never called him off and he kept going, trying to get into position to make the play. That was Gload's ball all the way and Uribe was expecting to get called off. That was Uribe's only mistake.

I do not let Uribe off the hook on that one - boy, did he pick the wrong time and the wrong game to f*** up or what!

It also shows why Willie is the better 2B - his footwork is better, he doesn't drop that ball.

However, Gload also gets an "error" on that play, albeit one that won't hurt his precious Fielding %. Mental error
