Ken Williams ESPN Radio Recap

Featured Replies

For those of you at home, you can watch Kenny Williams talk about the trade with Mike and Mike on ESPNnews. Or if you're at work flip on ESPN Radio. He'll be on at 9:30 EST/8:30CST.

Can anybody just get a brief summary? I'm sure it'll be a lot of "we're glad we got Freddy, etc."

Thanks!

Don't have the luxury to be patient. Had to make it, there's a window to win.

All 3 players will be a help to Seattle.

Breaks down his pitches, says stuff is there to shut down any team.

Feels we can beat any team if lucky to get into the playoffs.

Factor with Ozzie played an aspect in this move. Ozzie has showed winning is on his mind first and foremost, won't sacrafice winning aspects to keep his friendships in baseball.

Says if he didn't believe he had a "60 percent" chance of signing him he wouldn't have given up the 3rd player in the deal. Says he banking and gambling on it, but knows for sure he's given everything he can in 2004.

Would prefer not to answer directly if he is still working the phones.

Jokes he was so focused on Garica he should call the M's back and see if they have other players to give away.

Scouting and player development is our lifeline. Since we can't spend like the Yanks.

Rest was about interleague....

OK, he's been on for about 5 minutes now, he says he wouldn't have given up the 3rd player (I'm assuming Morse) if he didn't think they "had a 60% chance or better to sign him to a long term deal". He says the Sox have every intent of keeping Garcia.

On other trades, he tap danced around it, said "if we do something, we do something" ... non-committal.

They're talking about the interleague rivalry, they're asking Williams if the players are tired of the interleague stuff, Williams says no way - the players are fired up about it.

8:40, that's it.

The interviewers also mentioned Seattle said they are not done either. Williams, jokingly, said he'd have to call Bavasi back and see what else they've got.

Pretty straightforward interview, nothing really exciting.

Sort of figured. Thanks guys!

There was some interesting stuff said in regards to Boston and New York. KW said those teams can draft the best talent and not worry about the money it takes to sign them. And they have extensive international scouting systems and have money to sign foreign (non-latin) talent.

Wonder who he's comparing them to?

Feels we can beat any team if lucky to get into the playoffs.

This was exactly how I felt about the 2003 White Sox which I will never forget. Also the exact opposite of the Moneyball mindset.
