July 8, 200421 yr That is not true, given the Hawks went to the playoffs for a consecutive 27 years upto 97 (a NHL record) and went to the Stanley Cup finals in 92 (something the White Sox have not done...i.e go to the World Series since 59) If anything, in order to get to the playoffs and be competitive, the Hawks never really rebuilt their youth and prospects....they traded like crap too last decade...but it is very similar to the Sox where they get into the thick of the playoff race only to lose out or lose early in the playoffs But it's relatively easy to make it to the playoffs in the NHL. That wasn't that big of a feat, in my eyes, and i'm a die hard Hawks fan. Hawks have always had a playoff caliber team, just have never spent to make it a stanley cup contending team, especially the last 10 years. And you are right, the trading has been absolutely foul.

Making the playoffs in hockey isn't remotely the accomplishment it is in baseball. In recent years, with baseball's expansion of playoffs and hockey's expansion of teams its grown closer but there's still no comparison. Not making the playoffs in hockey generally means you suck.
