The Chicago White Sox promoted Warthogs infielder Andy Gonzalez to AA Birmingham on Thursday. Gonzalez will replace Barons shortstop Guillermo Reyes who was placed on the disabled list.

Gonzalez started the season in Kannapolis where he played 12 games before being promoted to Winston Salem. He hit .271 for the Intimidators. However, Winston Salem is where Gonzalez made most of his progress. Gonzalez, who was once thought of as the White Sox shortstop of the future, began to improve on his hitting and has shown great discipline at the plate. He was hitting .266 with 8 HR and 28 RBI for the Hogs, where he hit lead off. He also had a .381 OBP.

Defensively Gonzalez can pick it. He has great range and a good arm and has made numerous "web gems" with teammate Pedro Lopez. Andy played the bulk of his games at 3rd base for the Warthogs this year, but has been moved back to shortstop with the drafting of Josh Fields.

Reyes was hitting .310 in 23 games for the Barons. The switch hitter also played briefly with the Knights this season, hitting .118 in six games.

Gonzalez went 0-4 in his first game with the Barons.

sounds like Gonzo's progress made Morse expendable.

need Gonzo or Valido to take over at SS in three years.
