September 22, 200421 yr Author Raines is a minor league coach with the Expos. I'm sure he'd accept a major league position if offered. Just because he currently has a position does not exclude him from consideration. Also, I never said Raines should be the bench coach. For that role, I'd look more toward a guy like Torborg, if he'd accept.

If Baines does leave, I think Ozzie may look to hire a coach he's familar with from the Marlins perhaps, especially if Jack McKeon does leave after the season, and they shake things up.
September 22, 200421 yr YASNY, looks like you might not be the only one interested in Raines as a coach; He's a seven-time All-Star who is well-respected, who's enjoyed playing success in New York and who's just completed his first year as minor-league manager. So how 'bout Tim Raines for a Met coach next season? Aside from pitching coach Rick Peterson, the Mets almost certainly will have an entirely new coaching staff. Speaking generally and not about the Mets in particular, Raines admitted yesterday, "I'm interested in a major-league coaching job, most definitely." After managing Montreal's high-A ball team this year, Raines, 45, believes he could coach in various capacities (hitting, outfield, baserunning). He joined the Expos as a coach for the rest of the season yesterday and his first choice is to stay with Montreal.
