March 25, 200323 yr i know the sox dont have the deepest of minior leagues but i feel sorry for some of our minior league pitchers there really isnt any room on the team for them to make it here other than the pen, colon(if we lock him up) 28 burhle 24 garland 23 wright 25 that really only leaves 1 spot for our many talented young arms to compete with. i really dont like our pen that much this year koch and marte i think will be solid, gordon i trust if healthy, rick white gives up to many long balls. and glover is a stud in the ben so we only have 3-4 spots without signing anyone next year for our young arms. But what team doesnt pick up 1-2 free agent pitchers leaving 1-2 spots for our young arms next year.
March 25, 200323 yr Then again you just never know. Wrights arm injury is more serious, and Loiaza struggles with Colon walking potentially at the end of the season and we could need three more starters. I know one thing, I'm glad we got so much depth.

March 25, 200323 yr we dont have any real hitting depth left, in the minors Most of the stuff that is close is at the major league level. But, we have a lot of position prospects down in the very low ranks and then of course we have Borchard, Olivo, and the infielders in AAA. Otherwise, you got to wait for guys like Webster, Reed, Schnurstein, Valera, Rogowski, etc.
March 25, 200323 yr Author we only really have 3-4 holes opening up in the field for players LF lee i really like him and wish he would stay but most people dont like him CF rowand depends on this year RF maggs(he isnt goin anywhere) 3b crede (not goin anywhere) SS valintien(great leader but likely last season with sox) 2b Who knows who is playing there this year yet 1b PK(not goin anywhere) DH thomas (not goin anywhere) possibly open spot for next year LF CF SS 2b open for next year C olivo has not provin himself yet
March 25, 200323 yr Well Jimenez will be here again next year. Look for Borchard to take one spot, then there may be a real shot that Miles and Jimenez are our up the middle combo next season.
March 25, 200323 yr Actually....I'd say it is a 50-50 split on Lee....I personally like having a stronger defense....and I'd rather put Borchard in LF than Lee...but it Lee is moved out of LF....it is either to the DH or out of the organization....and if he is moved to DH....than Thomas is gone(sad but true). If we could get Valentin for about $4 mill a year or so....I'd be all for it. Also....assuming Colon has a good year....I'd try to sign him....but not too long. Maybe 3-years with an option for the 4th, at like $9 mill a year. With his s***ty mechanics....it's not a matter of if, but when he gets injured. Maybe it will be this year, maybe next year....maybe 15 years from now when he is throwing batting practice for his son....who knows. There is risk involved though. Rowand may be the starter in CF until Webster is ready....or Reed....and then Webster. It all depends. Jimenez will probably play 2B....but Miles could as well. I don't think Harris will....he's not having that great of a spring, and that will hurt his chances.
March 25, 200323 yr Author that is very possible leaving just 1-2 spots cf/lf and catcher i really want olivo catching even if he hits .220, i love his cannon of an arm, solid deffense, and if pitch calling is a problem how hard is it to get a sign from alomar on the bench ??

I know one thing, I'm glad we got so much depth. If the Sox are smart, they'll try to sign Colon mid-season. Hopefully we can get off to a 1st place start, and somewhere mid-summer, negotiate a contract with Colon (maybe 4 years, $40M or so), and hope he signs it. Rather than getting into a bidding war in the off-season that we would likely lose.

I would much rather have the Sox put their focus on keeping what we have in tact than go out and add free agents. Sign Colon, sign Buehrle to a long-term deal, and if you want to add another pitcher, trade for him. If all goes well, hopefully in 2004 we WILL have 3 #1's for us -- Colon, Buehrle, and Garland (if he can break through in 2003).
March 25, 200323 yr Pedro is a FA after this year I believe. Edit: Pedro can be a FA after this year, if the BoSox decline a 17.5 million dollar option.
March 25, 200323 yr Author Pedro is a FA after this year I believe. Edit: Pedro can be a FA after this year, if the BoSox decline a 17.5 million dollar option. pedro is gonna require to much money that i think the sox could use in better ways.
March 25, 200323 yr Pedro is a FA after this year I believe. Edit: Pedro can be a FA after this year, if the BoSox decline a 17.5 million dollar option. LOL, OMG...Pedro, Buehrle, Colon, Garland, Wright.... That will NEVER happen, but it's a nice scenario to think about.
March 25, 200323 yr Author if sox go deep expect this team to stay intac with the addition of another 10 million kind of guy has a pitcher.
March 25, 200323 yr If the Sox got Pedro, and a rotation of Pedro, Buehrle, and Colon, I'd s*** my pants, and then consider eating the pants.
March 26, 200323 yr what the hell is a farn system and why is ours so deep?????? lol lol lol lol sorry couldnt resist that one.........

We will free up some money when they get rid of Jose and if he wants to come back and the Sox want him back it will be for about half that price, I'd assume.
