The Philadelphia Phillies signed Placido Polanco to a one-year deal for $4.6 million Tuesday, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark has learned.

 

Polanco, 29, was a free agent who accepted arbitration.

 

Chase Utley is expected to the the Phillies' starting second baseman next season, with Polanco filling a utility role.
