Ukraine sets date for Iraq troop withdrawal

KIEV - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko says the withdrawal of 1,600 of his country's troops from Iraq will be completed by mid-October.

 

The first troops will start coming home later this month, Yushchenko said Wednesday after a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council.

 

The government had announced in early January that it would pull its troops.
