"Dodgers close to sending Ishii to Mets"

The Mets are close to acquiring left-hander Kaz Ishii from the Dodgers in exchange for catcher Jason Phillips, Sporting News' Ken Rosenthal has learned.

All Ishii is worth is Jason Phillips? Ishii isn't great but I would think he has more value than a scrub catcher like Phillips. I guess the Dodgers really were desperate for a catcher. No Ben Davis to Dodgers trade now.

why?

Because, if I am understanding DugoutDollars correctly, they are saving roughly $2.8 mill or so, while getting rid of a mediocre pitcher in Ishii.

Mets need to make this move too, since Trachsel is having some back-injury issues. I want to say Ishii's WHIP is super high, and I think he gets saved by pitching in the Grand Canyon that is Dodgers Stadium, but Shea is a pithcher's park as well, so I think he can come close to his OK numbers for the Mets

Shea is a pitchers park, but not nearly the pitchers park that Chavez Ravine is.

 

Dodger Stadium - 95B-96P ratings in 04, 93B-94P in 03, 91B-92P in 02

Shea Stadium - 99B-99P in 04, 99B-99P in 03, 94B-95P in 02

 

I wouldn't expect it to go up too much though.
