March 23, 200521 yr http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3477754The White Sox, a team that searched all last season for an acceptable fifth starter, suddenly have a sixth option — Brandon McCarthy, a 6-foot-7 right-hander who is likely to open at Class AAA. "I really liked him," Angels pitching coach Bud Black said after McCarthy handcuffed his club. "He had a nice, firm fastball, a nice breaking ball. He pitched aggressively, wasn't afraid of contact. And he threw a lot of fastballs down in the strike zone." McCarthy, who led the minors with 202 strikeouts last season, has surprised even the White Sox. "He told me, 'I'm the most mature 21-year-old I know,'" White Sox G.M. Ken Williams says. "Now I believe him. He's the most mature 21-year-old I know, too."
