March 31, 200521 yr http://www.indystar.com/articles/5/233167-1055-092.html Daylight Saving Time clears big hurdle House committee approves bill that would have Hoosiers turning springing forward By Michele McNeil Hoosiers would change their clocks on June 5 in observance of Daylight Saving Time under legislation approved today by a House committee. Senate Bill 127, which is no longer a bill about raising speed limits, could be voted on by the full House as early as Tuesday. The House Public Policy and Veterans Affairs committee voted 8-4 in favor of the measure, signaling broad support in the House for switching Hoosier clocks. Today's committee approval clears a giant hurdle for legislative leaders and Gov. Mitch Daniels, who were trying to figure out how to revive Daylight Saving Time while complying with legislative rules. Daylight Saving Time was one of the 130 proposals that stalled earlier this month when Democrats walked off in protest of other issues. House lawmakers are so optimistic that this bill will pass their chamber that they’re already talking about how it will fare in the Senate. “As long as it stays nonpartisan, I think it has a very good chance of passing,” said Sen. David Long, the Senate Majority Leader who’s in charge of marshalling Republican troops. However, he said he thought the bill would need Democratic votes. And, he said, Daniels will need to get involved as he did with House lawmakers, in some cases personally persuading senators to vote for it. This legislation, which would bring Indiana’s clocks in line with 47 other states and 40 other counties, would not change Hoosiers’ time zones. However, the bill urges Gov. Mitch Daniels to petition the federal Department of Transportation to conduct hearings on whether Indiana’s time zones should be changed. Currently, most of Indiana is in the Eastern time zone, with 77 counties observing Eastern Standard Time year-round. A few counties in northwest, southwest and southeast Indiana observe daylight-saving time, aligning their clocks with Chicago or New York in the summer. Though those who observe Daylight Saving Time move their clocks forward in April, and back in October, the June 5 date gives businesses time to adjust. And, perhaps as important, it doesn’t interfere with the May running of the Indianapolis 500.
March 31, 200521 yr The way I read it is the entire state would switch to Central time... and you already are, you nincompoop. No wonder you're confused, those 4 years of not having to switch your clock messed you up. And I was just thinking it's time for my annual first weekend in April gag "WHHHHAAAAAAT TTTTIIIIMMMMMEEEEEE IIIIIISSSSSSS IIIIIIITTTTTTTT?" phone call.
March 31, 200521 yr And then we would just follow the rest of the country after that in following Octobers and Aprils? We'd be normal? Whoa.

That's the way I read it. I don't think we'd all be Central. That will be up for discussion later. This is long overdue!

March 31, 200521 yr I know I hated it when Evansville was on the same time as Indy half the year and an hour behind the other half. It was confusing as hell. Especially near the border areas.
March 31, 200521 yr Author It was funny when everyone had to turn their clocks back in October. I remember all the out-of-towners on campus were showing up at the very end of the hour, because they all changed their clocks. No one knew that we didn't change.
March 31, 200521 yr QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) I know I hated it when Evansville was on the same time as Indy half the year and an hour behind the other half. It was confusing as hell. Especially near the border areas. I had the same proplem in college. Half the year we were on the same time as home, half the year we were an hour ahead. It didn't make any sense.
March 31, 200521 yr Every October we have people showing up to Mass right about the time we're finishing up receiving Communion!
