Jamie Burke???

I don't understand how a guy like him fell out of favor so much. All the guy has doen sicne he was claimed on waivers was hit. he hit .330 last year! Plus, his defense is above average and by mid-season, he was our team's ace's personal catcher. He also plays mltiple positions and gives Ozzie and KW versatility which they covet so greatly. he's been hittin the cover off the ball in ST, yet Chris Widger is now valued over him. I don't understan that.

P.S. Thank God Ben Davis is out of here. i've never seen a guy let so many balls get by him in my life.

This has been covered in other threads already but here goes....

Now, both Davis and Burke appear headed to Charlotte. Although Davis is a switch-hitter, the White Sox prefer him from the left side. He hit .222 with five home runs left-handed last year, but only .172 with one home run as a right-hander.

Guillen didn't want two primarily left-handed hitting catchers, and felt that Widger would handle the spot-start and pinch-hitting roles better than Burke.

"We liked the way he received the ball better. He has more experience," said Guillen of Widger, compared to another right-handed catching option such as Burke. "It's hard for us to say who we keep, because Burkie and Davis are great kids who get along with everyone.

"But we tried to get the best team we can get. Maybe we are wrong, but that's why we did it."

Ozzie has always liked Burke. That he chose Widger over Burke tells me the coaches think Widger can bring a lot to the Sox [i'm guessing vet leadership, experience, solid defense, some pop with his bat off the bench].

This doesn't mean the Sox are down on Burke. Just that they like Widger more

He also plays mltiple positions and gives Ozzie and KW versatility which they covet so greatly.

Burke's ability to play some 3B and 1B is hardly a necessity to our team considering Gload, Willie, and Ozuna will all likely make the roster. Gload is our backup at 1B. Willie can backup 2B and both Ozuna and Uribe can play 3B. Besides, Burke played all of 2 games at 3B and 2 games at 1B last season and those were as a late-inning defensive replacement. Also, Burke didn't exactly look good at either 3B or 1B this spring. I believe he had an error at each position.
