Pedro Martinez

Featured Replies

I don't know how long he can keep pitching, but Pedro has 12 K's through 5 innings. He's struck out everyone in the Reds line up at least on time. Could have some history being made here.

Yes, yes, yes :D

I've been going back and forth between the Sox and the Mets/Reds game, and Pedro's change-up should be illegal.

Wow that makes me happy that I traded him off of my fantasy team.

Interesting thread in the fantasy section:

Pedro Martinez for Hank Blalock

Still though, it's only one start. And who knows, Hank Blalock might go for 40/120 this year.

I actually traded for Blalock in the same league. I was convinced that Pedro cannot stay healthy all year and I got Oliver Perez and Adam Dunn in the deal so it was an easy decision. (I threw in another SP to complete the deal, but I can't remember because I have so many teams.)

I'm not saying this start vindicates me but I always thought the rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated. Look at his Ws start against the Cards for one example that he still can go. He may not hit 97 but he didnt forget how to pitch either

Well, his ERA jumped from 2.20 in 2003 to 3.90 in 2004, so the pessimism is understandable. That would definitely qualify as a negative trend. And when you follow tends in this league, you're usually correct waay more often than not.

Also, the injury rumors, although it seems like damn near every ace-caliber pitcher has question marks outside of a select few (mostly younger guys, naturally).

However, his 2004 WHIP of 1.17 (12th in the majors) and his move to Shea (tough environment for hitters) is what had me salivating when he was available at #23 overall in my draft.

Pedro ain't gonna get the victory today because of Adam Dunn. He has 2 HR and 5 RBI. As a team, the Reds now have 7 hits altogether (only 3 allowed by Pedro). Dunn's a monster. No roids. :D

Ohh yeah. Now that trade of getting rid of Pedro and adding Dunn is looking good. :D

Completely agree. I'd love to have him hackin up there for us though.

Too bad for Pedro. He could have won his first game in just his first performance of the season. For him, it is just going to seem like forever staying with the Mets. Same for Beltran.

They'd be in business if they had made the bullpen a higher priority this offseason. Maybe a couple guys will step up, or perhaps they'll acquire a closer at the deadline and move Looper to set-up man. Nobody is gonna catch the Braves in that division, but if they shore up their bullpen situation by the end of July, I can see the Mets challenging the Marlins, Cubs, Astros, etc for the Wild Card come September. That's a big IF, but they have some pieces in place.

This was a weak year for bullpen help in free agency. But, I do agree that they could and should have done more
