It's really not necesary.  The car companies are getting killed right now because SUV sales have plummetted.  Ford and GM are taking a bath on those gas guzzlers, the bigger they are, the biggest the sales drops. Plus the companies who invested in hybrids can't build enough of them.  Production is shifting as we speak.  As usual, the free market is taking care of business.

Yes, but fact of the matter the demand is too high and even if the US got more barrels, which I know one of the OPEC nations was offering to give more barrels but it still wouldn't matter. Regardless we could use another refinery or two and no one is going to tell me otherwise.

 

And yes I'm a huge fan of the new hybrid products, but in some cases they are a little pricey to the point where you pay the extra few thousand dollars and you'll never reap the benefits of the better gas mileage in the long run. Its definately the first step and its an awesome technoligy that will help split the gap between the oil age and whatever age is next (whether its hydrogen fuel cells or what) but in between that there is still the production gap and frankly they don't have enough hybrids yet and the cost-savings analysis doesn't make sense on a lot of them...YET.

Jeez 2.09, NY hasn't seen that since the early winter, anywhere. Right now the average is 2.40 give or take 10 cents.

1.99 here in louisville is the cheapest I have seen but I bet it might be a few cents cheaper elsewhere

 

Kentucky has historically had some of the lowest state taxes on gasoline in the country. I am not sure if that is still the case, but in the past there was always at least a 5 or 6 cents difference when crossing the river from Indiana to Kentucky.

I've noticed that gas is a few cents cheaper in the Missouri bootheel than in Kentucky, generally. I don't know if the rest of state is comparable. I would assume StL and KC are not.

 

Georgia also has historically had gas prices noticably cheaper than Kentucky. I haven't been in the state for 3 or 4 years, but the few I did go through, it was quite a bit cheaper.
