Late Inning Success

Featured Replies

I went through the box scores to see how we've done in innings 7 through 9.

We have outscored the opposition 42 to 26 in those innings.

If we give up a run in late innings, we usually control the damage. 12 times we have given up only one run. 4 times the opposition scored more than 1 run. (By the way 2 of these 4 times were in the same game, the second Oakland game.)

When we score in late innings, 10 times we have scored more than 1 run. Nine times we have score just one.

So, it's a tribute to our bullpen, and the feeling that we're never out of a game.

Harry Caray, when he did our games, use to say to Piersall, "You know Jimmy, it's like I always say...the big dogs walk late!" We walked late twice yesterday!

I don't have the numbers to back it up, but it seems like for the past few years it was the complete opposite. If we were down going into the 7th, you could leave the park or turn the tv off.

Some of that was named Billy Koch.
