Jabroni
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws Still Frank-ly speaking: During an informal pregame chat with the media, White Sox general manager Ken Williams was asked when Frank Thomas would begin his Minor League rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. Williams said that Thomas ultimately would make the call. Actually, it will be Thomas and athletic trainer Herm Schneider who make the call together, and Thomas indicated this decision could come Sunday. It also appears that Thomas would start his Minor League stint Monday in Charlotte and then travel with the team on an eight-game road trip to Ottawa and Buffalo. The Knights then return for an eight-game homestand. Thomas joked that a trip to Ottawa should be no problem, even mentioning that he might get to see former White Sox teammate James Baldwin. The right-hander currently is pitching for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate. Ross Choad update: Making progress: Although Ross Gload still has no timetable for his return to the White Sox, the left shoulder inflammation that sent him to the disabled list retroactive to April 25 is improving. "I definitely feel better than I did six or eight weeks ago," Gload said Saturday. Gload pointed out that the pain comes more from his left side, under the arm, as opposed to the shoulder. It affected both Gload's throwing and hitting, before he was taken out of action, but he hit earlier this week in St. Petersburg. Manager Ozzie Guillen mentioned that when Gload is ready to return, there would be no meetings among the coaches to discuss where he fits in. "He has a spot here," said Guillen of Gload. "It's not fair to him to say we will think about it. We might give him some Minor League at-bats, and then bring him when he's ready to come back. "This guy is a big part of the team," Guillen added. During a stellar rookie season, Gload hit .321 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. Gload also is one of the slickest-fielding first basemen in the American League. But his absence has meant more late-inning appearances for Paul Konerko at first, without the presence of a defensive replacement. Konerko has responded just fine, according to Guillen. "I'm not afraid to leave Paulie there," Guillen said. "He's playing better defense than I've ever seen from him."
