April 22, 200322 yr Officials look to keep fans off fields Lawmakers pledge new measures to avoid incidents Article from whitesox.com At this point, the fine for trespassing is $100. But on Tuesday, Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago, 3rd District) announced a plan, with the support of the White Sox and U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush (D-IL, 1st District), believed to be a deterrent for these disruptive actions. The legislation calls for a minimum $1,000 fine, mandatory 30-day jail sentence and possible alcohol and/or drug evaluation for anyone who trespasses onto the field. A second offense would be a $2,000 fine, and the move would extend to any basketball court, ice rink or professional sports venue. Hunter has not talked to any other pro teams in Chicago about the legislation.
April 23, 200322 yr I like the manditory jail term for any idiot who sets foot on a field. that will cost them more than any fine ever could.
April 23, 200322 yr its a great plan .. too bad its a little late in the makings huh............you would think that after last seasons fiasco they would have taken it a bit more seriously and passed something like this then......maybe it could have prevented it happening last week...............
April 23, 200322 yr I'm all for this! It will help keep more idiots off the field. Now, they must post a sign reminding everyone of this stiffer penalty.
April 23, 200322 yr They need to pass it into law first. But, it is about time this was at least proposed. However, if I'm there when we win Game 7 of the Series, I guess I'll be spending some time in the slammer.
