SoxFan1
"I just call that good pitching. He didn't get us much to hit," -- Orioles' first baseman Jeff Conine on Esteban Loaiza's performance. Conine is a decent hitter. Him making a statement like this is just showing that Loazia is hitting his spots and giving hitters nothing. Loazia is our MVP through the 1st month of the season, for sure! "The pitching -- the way [we've] been throwing -- we just got to step it up a little bit more on the pitching and go on from there. " -- Loaiza on the White Sox's pitching. He said this after an outing like the one he had last night. I know Loazia has been pitching great but he is now a team leader. Saying the pitching has to step it up and push so early in the season is wondeful. Loazia is creeping up on the Player of the Month Award and soon is becoming one of my favorite White Sox players. I love his mentality and drive.

Like the attitude hopefully it will soon rub off on some people.

Valentin and Konerko were leaders last year but they routinely singled people out. Loaiza just said the pitching needs to step up, he didnt say Koch or Garland should step it up. SoxFan1
The offense is shaping up but we need to learn more aspects of the game. Cough, Cough....Small ball.... Cough, Cough!
Soxplosion
Amen brother amen. We need Wally Backman in here. This team is not a team that should have 4 total SBs. If we get Wally in here we will run all over the opposition. JM is too passive, not aggressive enough. This isnt only on the basepaths, its with the umps too. We need a Bobby Cox type of guy in here. The umps are always messing with us, the next time we need a guy who will jump of his butt and give that ump a piece of his mind...
SoxFan1
Hold o now, I said small ball, not new manager. We need a REAl hitting coach. This Ward guy doesnt help the hitters. He says "Try harder next time!" and leaves. We need a hitting coach who would teach ALL aspects of the art of hitting. I have one thing to say!' OZZIE GUILLEN! Wally Backman is. Ward isnt great either but JMs gotta go first...
SoxFan1
I'll have to disagree. JM is fine with us right now. Ozzie Guillen should be brought in to either be hitting coach or a mentor or something with this ball club. He is one of my all time favorites and he could teach DJ, Jose, Aaron, Olivo, or anyone else, the true art of hitting and he could get this offense putting pressure on the pitcher by stealing bases and playing small ball. I say Ward must go 1st. BRING IN OZZIE!
Mathew
I have one thing to say!' OZZIE GUILLEN! ????? You want a guy who walked 12 times a year teaching our lead off man? I'll pass thanks. He can teach fielding perhaps, but not hitting.
SoxFan1
whatever, Dj is fine! We need him to teach small ball and thats it! How to get a good lead-off, how to make a good bunt, where to hit in certain situations, thats what we need Ozzie for. Guillen may have walked 15 times a year but he was a great player! And he is a great coach with the Marlins!
Soxplosion
I dunno. One thing our hitters lack is patience. And Ozzie aint gonna help that much. His career OBP was .287, which is pretty pathetic. How bout as a baserunning coach. That way we could keep JM. Hell be in charge of when to green light the runners and all baserunning tactics. I was pretty young in his days with the Sox (age ten in 97' when he left) but he was a pretty good baserunner as I remember. I think he could help us a lot there. Aggressive baserunning is the one aspect of the game were lacking in...

So we have a guy who thinks he should help the hitting, one who think hes should do baserunning and one who wants him to instruct our defense. A guy for every aspect... SoxFan1
Ok, maybe not hitting coach but baserunning coach is fine with me. He would almost surely cone back and be with Frank. Anyways, the thread was about Loazia's pitching, lets get back to that topic!
CaliSoxFan
Ozzie was pretty aggresive at times. I remember one game he hit a blooper over the second baseman, and the player nonchalantly (sp) played the ball. Before you know it OZZIE was on second. OZZIE OZZIE OZZIE or OOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZIEEEEE Guillen
SoxFan1
Ok, Ill say baserunning coach is appropriate. Guillen was a great baserunner. Jose Valentin reminds me a lot of him.
Soxplosion
Ok, Ill say baserunning coach is appropriate. Guillen was a great baserunner. Jose Valentin reminds me a lot of him. Yes he was. He could greatly improve our baserunning and our bunting. He can be the "small ball" coach. No real position, just JMs aide to make him more aggressive. And of course hell work with the team on bunting and baserunning...

Lee had one in Tuesday's game. 2 for Magglio, 2 for D'Angelo, and now 1 for Lee.
witesoxfan
As much as I like Loaiza's performance and his team attitude....I gotta wonder how smart he is or how good his short term memory is. We have to have an ERA under 4.00 for the whole year....and Buehrle has had 1 bad game. Koch and Garland have both sucked ass...and Gordon's had it rough....but as far as pitching goes....it has been better than expected. We need the offense to improve...not the goddamn pitching. witesoxfan
He was just saying the Sox pitchers need to step it up even more and pick up the offense. I pretty much understood that part. The pitching has done a good enough job of limiting the damage though. Our offense is too good to get shutdown like this. We need it to step up....and I agree that when the offense is having a bad night....the pitching needs to step it up. IMO....it has done exactly that(for the most part)
