Hideaway Lights
Remember when Gammons was bemoaning that the wildcard would probably come out of the "weak" central instead of the east, where there were four solid teams? The Central is 34-28 against the East collectively. The Royals themselves are 8-8. Even discounting this statistic as anomylous, I still think an argument can be made that teams like Toronto and elderly New York aren't any better than Detroit and Cleveland. Sure, Cleveland's got the worst hitting statistics in the AL but their pitching's been extremely solid. The Tigers have injury woes galore. With Mags healthy they could finish with 83-85 wins. So Peter, who's got the worse division again?
witesoxfan
AL Central is the 2nd best division in baseball, just behind the NL East. When probably the most talented team up and down the division is not only underachieving at 2 games above .500, but is also in last place, you gotta figure that the division is strong. And when, outside the division itself, the rest of the division only has 2 teams that are below .500 against 2 other divisions(Atlanta at 3-6 against the West and Washington at 6-7 against the Central). And yet another interesting note...the NL East, as mentioned above, has all 5 teams above .500. The only other division with the second to last place(4th in the AL East and Central and NL West, 5th in the NL Central and 3rd in the AL West) being at or above .500 is the AL East and the Yankees at 28-28. Was bored and couldn't sleep, so I had to do somethin...lol
Texsox
I'm, not sold on the talent in the NL East. It has the most parity, but perhaps not the best teams. Not disputing what you wrote, just offering some cautious observations.
