Couple of draft snippets...

Featured Replies

Mostly a bunch of stuff from John Sickels, but I'm still looking at all the draft stuff. Apparently there's a lot of "fallout" (for lack of a better word) with Beane taking a bunch of high-schoolers early, but anyways, here's the Sox stuff I found:

Here's a Q & A with John Sickels from Baseball Digest Daily:

Baseball Digest Daily (BDD): What were some of the surprises of the first two rounds?

John Sickels (JS):  I think Lance Broadway was the only real surprise, although in the last two days before the draft it was clear that he was moving up the chart. There were more surprises in the second round. Jeff Bianchi to Kansas City went two-three rounds sooner than expected, although according to press reports they picked him that early because they wanted to make sure they got him. Craig Italiano to Oakland was a surprise, given Billy Beane’s concerns about high school pitching, but his upside was too good to ignore apparently. Zach Simons to Colorado was a round or two sooner than expected. There were several guys like that.

BDD: Who were the biggest reaches? Lance Broadway perhaps?

JS: Broadway reminds me a lot of guys like Justin Wayne. Very polished, great breaking stuff that college hitters can’t handle, but limited upside. Wayne was a disappointment and a lot of these guys are. I thought Broadway fit better as a supplemental pick.

And here's some general commentary on our draft from his blog.:

Chicago White Sox  REAL DRAFT

1---15--Lance Broadway, RHP, TCU

3---95---Ricky Brooks, RHP, East Carolina University

4---125--Chris Getz, 2B, University of Michigan

5---155---Ryan Rote, RHP, Vanderbilt

Chicago White Sox MOCK DRAFT

1---15---Wade Townsend, RHP (1--8---Devil Rays)

3---95---Josh Lindblom, RHP, Harrison HS, West Lafayette, Ind.  (3--104---Astros)

4---125--Chris Robinson, C, University of Illinois (3---Tigers)

5---155---Josh Zeid, RHP, New Haven CT HS  (Not Drafted)

COMMENT: I've already mentioned that I think Broadway was overdrafted at 15th overall. Brooks is a draft-eligible sophomore and may be a tough sign, but if he signs he's a fine prospect, although I also like Lindblom. I prefer Robinson to Getz by a wide margin, but Robinson wasn't available in the Real Draft by that point. Zeid wasn't drafted in reality due to signability concerns. Rote has a good arm but is erratic. I can't say I'm super-impressed with the Real Draft, but the Mock Draft has a major signability issue with Zeid.

I'm looking for some other stuff, too. Hopefully I can grab my brother's BA account real quickly to see the Organizational Post-Draft Report for the Sox. If I find some other stuff, I'll be sure to post it.

Damn, I wish we would of got Lindblom.
