I was in Kamloops for a College ball tourny that had some friends of mine playing for different teams some I thought about playing for when I go to school. Anywho I saw a kid playing for Malsapina(on Vancouver Island if that helps,probably not) he was throwing at 90mph and seemed to have a decent splitter, though he didn't pitch his best that day I gather. His name is Karl Mejlholm I think he's 18 and hear he was in the L.A. organization, is he any good? The thing I also didn't realize is that Canadian College ball uses wood bats, which was better for evaluating the kids talents I thought, anyone can find the sweet spot on a metal bat.

Thats interesting about the wooden bats in Canada. You'd think it would be a good way of evaluating talent but I think its still very hard to evaluate the players in Canada because in general it is not up to par with the players in the US, mainly because in Canada hockey is the bigger sport.

 

Of course with the sucess of Eric Gagne and many other Canadian pitchers thought of as top prospects(I think 2 went in the top 10 this year) it shows that Candian baseball is improving.

O yes you can! And it f***ing hurts when you get jammed with an aluminum bat. Stings like hell.

 

I'd rather see college and hs kids using wood bats because if they're ever going anywhere in baseball, it's all wood bats. A lot of semi-pro leagues are wood bat leagues too. But it's all about Easton , advertising and money. It will be a while before Aluminum bats are gone. A few people will have to get killed. :mad:

I know when I pitched if they have a decent swing they won't get jammed. Well they get jammed, but the ball still comes off hard.

It looks like he's playing for the Namaimo Pirates.

 

The problem is the Pirates don't have that team listed as an affiliate.

 

The stats I see were that he was 10-2 with a .97 era. He had some real impressive numbers as he struck out 117 walking just 15 in 86.6 innings.

 

The guy looks real good, but with those numbers you'd expect to hear something about him and so far I haven't found anything where they talk about how touted he is.

When I think about it, those were his college stats. He was drafted in the 14th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2002 draft.

 

He pitched for Team Canada as well in 2002.

 

It doesn't look like he's signed yet for the Dodgers and if he has he has yet to report anywhere, most likely because he played for Team Canada.

 

Look for him to go to Rookie ball next season or maybe A Ball, but he could definately be a sleeper in the Dodgers orgaization.

 

I read some good things about him from when he pitched for Team Canada.

Malaspina U is in Nanaimo, so it makes some sence. He had a decent splitter and hit 90 a few times, I was just glad to see such a good level of baseball. Our summer team has 6 six kids who are going to school playing baseball, it's good cause we're from a small town, so that's pretty wicked. We should rip some s*** next year.
