August 29, 200520 yr Bears acquire Pro Bowl alternate from Dolphins By Larry Mayer August 29, 2005 LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Making a trade for the second straight day, the Bears on Monday dealt tight end John Owens to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, a Pro Bowl alternate on special teams last season. Linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo led the Miami Dolphins in special teams tackles each of the past two seasons. The trade is contingent on both players passing their physicals. Ayanbadejo led Miami in special teams tackles with 19 in 2003 and 23 in 2004 while playing in all 16 games each season. After playing primarily on special teams in 2003, the 6-1, 228-pounder started two games at linebacker last season and totaled 20 tackles and one interception. Ayanbadejo signed with Miami as a free agent in 2003 after originally entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 1999. The UCLA product was waived by Atlanta on Aug. 23, 1999 and played for three teams in the Canadian Football League from 2000-02. Owens played in two games with the Bears last season after he was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Lions last Oct. 24. The 6-3, 255-pounder appeared in 22 games for Detroit after joining the Lions as a fifth-round draft pick in 2002. On Sunday, the Bears traded defensive end Alain Kashama to the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick.
