September 14, 200520 yr What is it? I am just wondering because of Jenks and Brandon. I think Brandon will surpass the number of innings, if he has't already, but what is the maximum number of innings in one year so a player can still be a rookie next year. Both would have excellent shots next year if they still remain rookies.
September 14, 200520 yr http://www.hickoksports.com/history/baserook.shtml Currently, a player is considered a rookie if he hasn't accumulated more than 130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on a major league roster before Sept. 1 of any previous season. (That's the cutoff date because, on Sept. 1, the roster limit is increased from 25 to 40.) If I am reading this correctly Jenks will not be a rookie because he was called up July 5, giving him 56 days on the roster before 9/1. BMac will be a Rookie as his two stints (May 22 to 27 and Jun 19 to July 4) add up to 20 days. Neither had 50 innings to Sept 1.
