September 17, 200520 yr If by "promising? you mean who has the most potential, then the answer has to be Chris Young.
September 18, 200520 yr I said Valido, though it's a real tough choice. He has been a better hitter than expected. He's a slick fielder. He's been a very proficient base-stealer.
September 19, 200520 yr I voted for Young because the question is based on potential. Based on that, Young could be a 40-40 guy in the majors who pushes .400 OBP... Those guys are rare and usually end up in a small town in rural NY... McCarthy's margin-for-error to become "great" is smaller. I think he could be a Buehrle-type pitcher in that he throws a lot of innings, is a 15-19 game winner, and is just short of being a true Ace. So, a Very good #2 pitcher, basically. That's pretty good, but not really HOF-worthy unless he does it for 20 years. Gio and Valido still have question marks and a long ways to go, IMO. Sweeney has not shown the eye-popping power that would lead you to think he had a high ceiling, but everything else he does well. Has potential, but still behind Young IMO.
September 19, 200520 yr I agree with Randar. If you mean potential by who has the chance to be the biggest star. Young has Maggs-like offensive numbers in terms if extra base hits, and has the speed and fielding ability to make him a staple in a starting lineup. I like him a whole lot.
