The team that wins the most games over the course of a 162 game season will be declared the division champion.

Hope that helps.

If the Sox win tomorrow and Cleveland wins out, both teams finish the season with the same record. Because both Boston and New York can NOT finish with records better than Cleveland or the Sox in this situation, a one game playoff would not be necessary. The Sox would be considered the AL Central champs, and the Indians would be considered the Wild Card winners due to the Sox having the better head to head season record.

It happened with the Cards and Astros a few years ago.

I don't believe we clinch the division with just a win. Of course, if it happens against Cleveland this weekend, then that's a different story.

We win tomorrow and we win the division yas. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say my head hurts from all the possible scenarios and tie breakers but we win tomorrow and the central is ours. :)

Got ya.

With the Magic Number officially at 2, do you think the Sox will celebrate a division championship if they win tomorrow?

Nice little blurb from mlb.com here, nothing we didn't already know but fun to see it in print anyways: Jose Contreras won his eighth straight start and Scott Podsednik had four hits, leading the White Sox over the Tigers, 8-2, on Wednesday night. If the White Sox win this afternoon with Freddy Garcia on the mound, they are the 2005 American League Central champions. :headbang :headbang :headbang :headbang
