One thing about the Bandwagon

I've noticed several lengthy posts on this webpage and others on "bandwagon fans." I 've also heard quite a lot about it on the radio as well.

My feeling is that the number of "bandwagon fans" WAY WAY WAY overestimated. Generally, the media (in this town and nationally) have cynically downplayed the number of white sox fans in chicago for at least a decade. Even if the sox didn't draw 35k a night, the sox still had a close 40% of the city call themselves sox fans. At 40%, thats still a s***load of people.

Now the sox are in the ALCS, and for the first time in a long time, the media actually has to start covering them. Suddenly, they look around and say "wait a second... there are actually a lot of people that like this team." Rather than admit that their shallow preconceptions were wrong, its just much easier to say that the bandwagon is in full effect.

I'm sure there are a few bandwagoner's coming along for the ride. But my general feeling is that they are much fewer than we all think. The media and casual observers are notorious for refusing to admit their past mistakes. I went to a game last week, and it was nothing like the type of bandwagon crapola they are used to on the north side. Like all sox fans I know, everyone around me was very knowledgable and had clearly been following the team for a long portion of their lives.

just my two cents

Good post, Abe. Most Sox fans have been waiting for a team worth spending their hard earned cash to see. It's going to take a deep run in the post season and commitment from the organization in the post season to keep improving this team to convince them this is for real and they are serious about putting a winner on the field. A competitive team is not good enough. We've been competitive for too long with nothing to show for it.

While all are opinions change in one loss, or one win, the truth of the matter is we a good, almost great core, that needs to be used in the next two or three years.

Mark-26

Jon-26

Freddy-29

Brandon-23

Mark and Jon should just be getting into there prime, Freddy is in it, and Brandon isnt even close. Jose is obviously your wild card, and a good f***ing wild card at that.

You have two studs in the pen in Jenks-24, and Cotts-25. Cliff, Dustin at least have two more good years in them.

------------------------------------

We have no starters in are infield that is older than 30, and thats are rookie. :P

Our OF left to right is 29,28,31

-------------------------------------

Are CORE is right there in there primes or getting there. This isnt a team that needs to do something now because time is running out, and this isnt a team that is too young to do anything yet. We are there, and we are in the process of doing something great.

Yes we do have a good core, but along with that we have to keep vital pieces to the team like PK.
