January 14, 200620 yr Just listening to some radio today and Offman from the Clown Convention this weekend had tape of Baker saying Wood may start off in the bullpen.... when he starts, they have no idea when he will be ready, Offman said it looks like best case scenario is sometime before May.
January 15, 200620 yr His career will be coming to an end shortly I'm thinking. Give him 3 or 4 more years and he will be considered one of the biggest dissapointments in recent history.
January 15, 200620 yr Author QUOTE(TheDudeAbides @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) who cares? Well, this is a general baseball discussion and I thought it was news... so to answer your question... I do...
January 15, 200620 yr There was this kid in my High School physics class six years ago who was a huge Cubs fan. He was a recent immigrant to this country yet was quickly consumed by suburban Cubbie Kool-Aid. He had this thick Indian accent and we would always argue about the Cubs vs. Sox. In every argument, he had this one unforgettable line, "Kerry Vood is the future." Now, I'm sure he meant it differently, but that is true for the Cubs in so many ways. For reference, in 1999 the Cubs started the season 32-23 and looked on their way to a second straight playoff appearance before a disappointing summer including a dismal 6-24 August ended their hopes and left them with a 67-95 record. A meteoric rise and fall that began with so much promise like the career of one Kerry 'Vood'.
January 15, 200620 yr I predict Kerry Wood will be a dominate pitcher next year with a low earned run average and a higher strike out total than anybody else in MLB in simulated games. That is why Kerry Wood is my simulated league Cy Young finishing just ahead of Mark Prior. Perhaps he can even take the cubs to a simulated World Series. Mark it down that I called the shot on January 15.

January 16, 200620 yr QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) 3 years in a row, huh? Josh Beckett is my AL pick. I remember last year during the playoffs when Garland had the long layoff and he had to pitch a simulated game. Someone asked him who the opposing pitcher was, Kerry Wood? I laughed at that subtle little dig.
