March 30, 200620 yr Author QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) so have you done any of your 20 miler training runs yet? 18 miles last Sunday, 21/22 this Sunday! I swear these are harder than the actual Marathon.
March 30, 200620 yr yea, the 18-20-20-18 weekends are the worst... then it gets easy right before your marathon. I ran one in Orlando in 1999 - the Disney marathon and did it sponsoring the Leukemia Society. The day after I signed up, litereally the day after, I broke my foot playing softball. I couldn't even train for the damn thing so I just walked/ran it. But hey, at least I finished!

The hard stuff is now over and it looks like I'm on track to break 4 hours and get a PB. Here's hoping.
April 15, 200620 yr Author One week to go and if you take a look, you'll notice that I've passed my target of £500. There should be a further £150 - £250 when all my sponsorship forms are in. Thank you to all that have helped. Dep.
April 15, 200620 yr DePloderer are you now tapering? I just did 18 miles in the heat yesterday and I swear it was harder than the Lake Shore Marathon last May and that was 27.2 miles. Good luck on the 'thon.

Yes, I had a relatively easy week last week, only doing 1 hour tommorow and then a couple of short runs next week then the race. I agree though the long 3 hour runs are way harder than the actual race. thanks for the good wishes. BTW I know that everything in the USA is bigger than in the UK but are marathon's realy longer over there than over here? Edited April 15, 200619 yr by DePloderer

April 24, 200619 yr Author Well I finished it. My time was 4 hours 7 mins, although this is a PB I'm a little dissapointed, I was training for a time of sub 3.50 and the training went well. At 16 miles I was cruising, on target for 3.45, but at 18 miles my legs stopped working! Cramp in both calfs, right thigh and as for my left butt cheek, well it just gave up all together. I was unable to put two strides together and I had to hobble the last 8 miles. The frustrating thing was that unlike previous marathons, fatigue wasn't a problem, I wasn't particilarly tired, my legs just refused to work. Anyway I'm sort of happy with a PB and it looks like I've raised around £1100.00 for the Rainbow Trust (with a lot of help from you guys), so the run was worth it and there is always next time. BTW I'll post the final total when all my donations are in.
April 24, 200619 yr Wow! Awesome, congrats on a personal best and all the money you raised for a nice charity!
