Its wrapping up right now. ANy reports appreciated

Whoops, I totally missed this and started my own thread. I was in the commoner, peasant line, and arived shortly before 5. I had a bunch of great White Sox fans around me who had me turning off my ipod and carrying on in discussion with them instead. The VIP line for buying Perry Ellis schwag was nonsense, but sense they sponsered the event, no one could do anything. Bobby was late (as al athletes are). We had a good time ripping on the yuppies in the "VIP line" as almost 95% of the people wearing SOX gear were in the normal lines. I mean, if i wanted to pay $50 for an autograph, I would get one off of Ebay and wouldnt screw around in any form of a line. A bastard that had a Cubs cellphone cover and a son in a Yankee jersery expiditeded around me in the VIP line like he was some diehard talking about what Ozzie said about this and that. But any way, I got my autographed 8x10 for my personal collection and was out by 730. I was one of the first 100 in line and also got a perry ellis gift bag with some schwag, the best being a nice sized bottle of cologne. To my delight, I did see some cheating ass dealer getting reported to the management for going back into the VIP line. As I left, it seemed like everyone who came was going to get a chance to meet Bobby. I just want to say thanks to the folks around me for keeping me sane. I was wearing the grey sox shirt and red athletic shorts. You all made it fun for me.

I forgot to mention that Bobby was very cool and seems like a great person. Waiting to meet him is a treat unlike a certain northside pitcher who got sued!!

My daughter and a couple of her friends also went and were in the peasant line. She also was mad about having to wait for the vip line as people would buy stuff just to be in the VIP line. One lady went thru 3 times ( buying 3 different $50 transactions) before they even moved. My daughter was there at 4: 00 pm and had to wait til 7:30 for the autograph. The vip line may have generated some sales but wait til Carson gets all the people returning the merchandise for their money back. Typical event at a store. - poorly organized. However, she said Bobby Jenks was very nice and even asked if they had been there long, when they said yes, he said he was sorry for the wait.

I want to assure you I am a Sox fan. I walked in to Carsons at 5:30...went to a perry ellis rack....bought a 69.00 shirt and got in the VIP line. I'm sorry I wasn't wearing my sox gear, which I guess makes me less of a fan, but I came straight after work. I was done and out of the store by 6:45. I'll be returning my 69.00 shirt this weekend as I would imagine most people that bought stuff will be. With the exception of kids with no money, I can't figure out why everyone didn't take advantage of it. It's not like they said its non refundable. You people in the peasant line looked like you wanted to kill the people in the VIP line when all we did was follow the rules. Whatever though...I'm glad everyone was able to get an autograph.

Bobby was very cool and polite. I got my Sports Illustrated World Series mag signed and a baseball I brought. When you make your Perry Ellis purchase they give you a free baseball that has Perry Ellis written all over it. I'm glad I brought one.

I was there as well and did the same thing Chaos did to avoid the long regular line. Most everyone around me did the same thing. Why wait 3-4 hours? It would make me more upset if I were you that people were getting multiple things when it was clearly stated 1 autograph per person.

You know I went to the Buehrle signing that was Tuesday at the Thompson Center cause it was across the street from my work and I went to Yorktown cause it's 2 minutes from my house. It was pretty funny how many familiar faces I saw at these two events given the distance. They must be collectors that drive all over to these things cause even though they weren't in line together they all knew each other. I'm not sure if they went in the VIP line more than once or not cause I left right after mine, but if they did...THAT would have pissed me off.

I did originally think it was going to be one signature per receipt and I was debating do I get my SI cover or the baseball. I was even going to go ask one of thsoe collector guys which would be the best thing to get. Then they said one per person I was able to have my wife get the ball signed and I got the SI Cover.

I'm becoming somewhat of an autograph connoisseur I now have Buehrle, Jenks and er um Ryan Sweeney.

Why is it everyone of these events can never go off without a hitch. The athletes are always late the the store is never organized enough. I had my picture taken with the trophy in December at one of the US Cellular stores and of course the trophy was 1-1/2 hours late and no one could figure out the line and where it began and ended and people kept coming in and out of line. It's not that difficult to organize ahead of time.

I had Buehrle sign my World Series program and a couple of baseballs...Not on the sweet spot might I add, since I didn't know what the hell that was(thanks watchtower). Bobby's is on the sweet spot.

Well these were my second and third times waiting for an autograph and I thought both went off without a hitch. I mean both times the players were about 15 minutes late, but that's not bad....s*** happens. If they got there early everyone would expect them to start signing early and then they would expect them to stay till the end even though they started early.

I understand where you are coming from; I've been to autograph signings that were completely insane.

But Joe Crede's appearance this past weekend went perfectly. He was scheduled to be there from 6:30 till 8:00, he showed up at 6:15...15 minutes early. Everyone who had a voucher was able to meet him, get an autograph, and have a picture with him. He was very nice and responsive to everyone and he even stayed all the way till 8 pm just in case someone else showed up hoping to meet him. I was very impressed.

Yeah I wish I had the older ones too...I know they go back further than 2000. They would always be trashed by the time I was done with the game. My one friend got this coat with a big square pocket in the front....he has since been holding them every year for everyone and they dont get messed up now.

I love hearing stories about how these guys are all cool in person. It just makes you root harder for the team.

So many firsthand encounters I've had with celebs have been disappointing.

There was this dude at WSI last year who told a great story about how he ran into Buehrle at Midway by the luggage. We was very shy but approached him and asked for an autograph. Buehrle, he said, said "No problem, but I gotta grab a bag off the carousel, can you hold this?" and hands the guy his Sox gear bag to hold! Then he comes back, signs for the guy, and the guy wished him well and he said he could not have been any friendlier.

:cheers

Here's a dark side: the same guy spoke of how, before he approached Buehrle, some guy came up to him and just literally stuck a newspaper in his face for him to sign. I guess it cuts both ways, sadly.

BTW love the story about the fans in the "peasant" line glaring at the people in the VIP line. LOL! You keep it up, people! That's the spirit.
