June 19, 200322 yr This might be one of the better defensive games this year. Not including the Crede error in the 1st of course. All 3 outfielders have made some very nice catches. Both Jimenez and Valentin have made tough running players were they had to charge and hurry a throw because of the speed of the base runner. Its nice to see some good D for once and it is one of the main reasons that the great Red Sox offense filled with .300 hitters only has 1 hit. How about that 1 hit through 8 for the best offense in the AL. Sox pitching has retired 23 of the last 24 batters if I am not mistaken. Good job by Wright to come back after a rough start. Lets get some runs and win this game. The Boston bullpen is their weakness. Taking 3 out of 4 from a team like Boston would be a huge step in the right direction heading into big series with the Cubs and Twins.
June 19, 200322 yr Ya but the error may cost us the game. If we lose this game, that error in the first will not be the cause of it. Inability to score runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs will be the cause.

One sees the glass half-empty, the other, half-full. Either or are definitely reasons. This team hasn't been able to score runs all season. When you can't score runs, errors kill. I'm leaning toward the error if the Sox lose this one.
June 19, 200322 yr Not including the Crede error in the 1st of course Considering that he still had a chance (albeit an outside one) for a DP or at least a FO at second, which would have pertty much given Wright some room for error in addition to less outs to work with...I have no trouble whatsoever calling it a 3-run error. Which pretty much disqualifies this game as "one of the better" as far as defense is concerned. YMMV.
