November 6, 200619 yr Interesting choice; The Rangers have settled on A's third-base coach Ron Washington as their new manager. He'll officially get the job on Monday. Washington was picked over Nippon Ham Fighters manager Trey Hillman, Rangers bench coach Don Wakamatsu, Mets third-base coach Manny Acta and Phillies minor league manager John Russell. The A's thought very highly of him, even if they did prefer Bob Geren as a managerial candidate. It will be interesting to see if he tries to play more small ball with a lineup and a ballpark poorly suited for it. If he can avoid that trap, he'll probably do a fine job.
