June 25, 200718 yr Sorry, just want those more educated in what he's been doing to give me the lowdown... I hear good things.
June 25, 200718 yr Good control. Striking out guys. Not allowing runs. Hot June. Velocity consistently at 92-94 (according to BHAM). Going deep into games. Getting big hammer over.

I'd love to get him up to the bigs and see if some of the big time potential can be realized.

If Floyd turns into the pitcher he once should have been, and Gio becomes the pitcher we all think he could be...
June 25, 200718 yr QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Wow, he might be back, seeing that velocity hitting 94 is huge... eh? I'd love to get him up to the bigs and see if some of the big time potential can be realized. This year, Gavin has seemed like the one guy in our organization who we can legitimately say "He has not lost velocity over last year". There was at least one game in ST where he was hitting 96 consistently, although I think he gave up a few too many walks that game. But since he missed a couple starts with a blister, everything seems to be clicking for Gavin in AAA this year. If we traded a starter today, Gavin could make his next start in the majors. We don't know how he'd do (he did win his first MLB start a few years ago), and it won't hurt us to not rush him given that rushing him may well have been what got him off track a few years back, but he's showing some promise. Right now though, he's still a 24 year old repeating AAA again, so he should be expected to be better than that league, so until he gets up to the big leagues and succeeds, you have to keep some skepticism (even if he's your AAP).
