2006 free agents: how'd they do?

Featured Replies

Anyone have a comprehensive list of the free agents that were signed last year/offseason?

Obviously you can't judge the contracts after just one year. Off the top of my head though, the biggest $$ signings were the worst.

bad

Barry Zito- 4.56 ERA in the NL

Vernon Wells .734 OPS

Alfons Soriano- good numbers but injured at least a month

good- the much less heralded signings

Ted Lilly 3.89 ERA

Gil Meche 3.85 ERA

Chad Bradford, Henry Blanco (hurt, but they didn't need to re-sign him,) Clayton, Dellucci has been really bad, JD Drew, Adam Eaton (predictable,) Nomar, Marcus Giles, Toby Hall, Latroy Hawkins, Wes Helms, Roberto Hernandez (predictable,) Hillenbrand (Predictable,) Kei Igawa, Adam Kennedy (good God, he got a three year deal,) Julio Lugo, Gary Matthews Jr. (predictable,) Wade Miller (burned the Cubs twice,) Mussina, Trot Nixon, Ramon Ortiz (predictable,) Ponson, Padilla, Juan Pierre, Joel Piniero, Reitsma, Jason Schmidt, Suppan, Soriano, and Schoeneweis.

BAD

Clearly...therefore...the way to fix the White Sox is the Free Agent market.

I don't care about Meche's 3.85 ERA, that in no way warrants a 55 million dollar deal.

That's a better number in the AL Central than Zambrano has in the NL Central.
