NorthSideSox72
Per the Trib, Rafael Santana, who managed the Birmingham AA affiliate this season (68-72), will now take over managing the organization's Dominican operations at Boca Chica. He will be reporting to Dave Wilder (Sr Dir of Player Personnel). Also noted in the article, KW is getting all the scouts together in Phoenix prior to the org meetings this month, and has hired new scouts, including Kevin Burrell (former Sox scout from the 90's, also scouted for Boston and Houston). As more internal org moves are made, you can add them to this thread if you'd like. I suspect there will be others.
29andPoplar
Yes there will be other moves, some of which will hit the press like this one, others which will not (hiring of scouts and instructional people from other organizations). Rafael Santana running the second operation down there is a good move, at least on the surface. He is connected in the DR and it may help the White Sox. I need to find out exactly how the organizational structure works down there, but it all reports through to Wilder as the Trib article states. What I don't know is how Denny Gonzalez fits although I believe he runs the original Dominican team/academy. And I believe both are overseen by Ruben Amaro Sr. who in turn reports through to Wilder. Hopefully I can get the scoop for SoxTalk when and if these interviews come to fruition. Unfortunately I don't think they will occur until November because of organizational meetings. Hopefully no later than that but I am in no position to make promises, these men are very busy. Either way, additional attention and resources to the Dominican operation is a positive. BamaJason
The Birmingham News is reporting that Santana will not return as the Barons manager in 2008. He is being reassigned to scouting duties in the Dominican Republic.
DBAHO
Anything that helps us down in the D.R I'm all for. Let's hope Rafael can use some of his connections down there to help us in getting some better prospects to develop down there in the future. BearSox
How long ago did Kevin Burrell scout for the red sox? If it was recently, good move, cause the Red Sox have built quite a pretty good farm over the past couple of years.
