Devaluing the World Seires Championship

Featured Replies

Does anyone else feel a little bit like our world series championship was a little underrated or cut short by our own team? In '06 we made sure that the team knew and understood that '06 was a new year and we couldn't let the '05 victory be an excuse not to succeed, in theory this was a good idea, but does anyone else feel a bit like it was not given the credit it deserved? The World Series championship is the best thing in baseball and it was cool in the '05-'06 offseason how we were champions but once ST started the Sox organization treated it like we accomplished nothing. When we do this I just feel like the World Series isn't that big of a deal anymore. I'm not saying we should celebrate for 10 years afterwards, but I feel like we devalued a major accompmlishment. Did anyone else feel this way? Or do you guys think we glorified ourselves enough and were right to forget about winning the World Championship.

I think we value it just right, and I think the rest of the world did also. It's like any other World Series though, non-fans of the team forget who was there within a few years unless there was something AMAZING that happened. I think the 2005 play-offs will be better remembered than the actual World Series. But I remember very little about the 2003 World Series, other than aspects of the play-offs. I remember the bloody sock in 2004, but not a whole lot else. I'm sure though that Red Sox fans can tell you every little thing about that series.

A few times this year I've heard national outlets mention the 4 complete games from the ALCS. I think that will be the legacy of the 05 team. It's unavoidable to bring that stretch up if they're trying to point to pitching performances by a team during the playoffs.

Alot of people didnt believe that Hou belonged in the WS, and after it was all said and done, it appeared that they were right. Frankly, the best series in that entire playoffs for us was against Boston.
