According to Kalapse's wonderful payroll resource Jim Thome's '09 option for $13m guarantees at 1100 plate appearances during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. I got him at 536 in '07 and 506 so far in '08 for 1042. (MLB.com TPA) So he needs 58. He's been averaging a little over 4 per game. Should take him 14-15 games. The team has 23 to go. Can't count the chickens before they hatch, but it looks like he'll make it.
September 5, 200817 yr Thome will be our DH next year. The dude can still swing the bat. I know many of us written him off early, but he turend the corner and has been a huge boost to this offense. Its good to see Paulie back in the swing of things also.
