He made 2 plays last night that saved at least 2 runs maybe more. Ray had pretty good range but it was mostly to his left. Alomar's 2 gems were to his right. I don't know if the Sox have had anyone the last 30 years at 2B who would have made those plays. He still has life, so if the team doesn't show any, I think they could get a prospect or 2 for him.

You gotta keep em all and take the picks for em.....Frank, Colon, Robbie, Carl........ Im pretty sure we'd get first round picks (I THINK) for each player if and when they signed w/ a different team...

it's complicated but Mike could spell it out better for you.

You sure you are willing to offer arbitration to all of those guys? What if they accept and we are stuck with a guy making more money than we want to pay him?

I'm not saying they won't, but if the market looks to stay slow, arbitration (a la Greg Maddux) is a good way for a guy to stay closer to the money he was making.

That has to be taken into consideration when thinking draft picks.

That's one reason why arbitration is so unfair to the owners. Before the last Collective Bargaining Agreement, there was talk that the owners would try for a small change in the process. That is, if the owner didn't like the arbitration result, the team could release the player and make him a free agent. However, it got lost under the cloud of revenue sharing, or luxury tax, or whatever they call it. The union prevailed on this issue, just as they did on drafting of foreign born players.

The Sox will have some delicate decisions to make in the off season. If they want draft picks, they have to offer arbitration, and if the player accepts arbitration, the Sox are stuck with the new contract. For example, if Colon gets on a hot streak and wins several games, some arbitrator could conceivably award him $10 MM next year. Same with Alomar, Everett, Lee, et al.
