DSL player that looks very intriguing

Featured Replies

Here are his stats so far:

.366 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBIs, 14 BBs, 5 Ks and a .527 OBP. (41 at-bats)

OK so this may be a bit premature, but I just really like this guy and think he has a great future. Really only basing this off his BB and K rate. Although this sample size is small, last year as a 17-year-old he had a 33/33 K to BB ratio in 172 at-bats, granted he only hit .209. But youngsters show that much patience at such a young age and seemingly improve greatly after one year of pro ball, he seems to ooze potential. He is 6-1, 180, so he is not a twig, but def. has room to grow. Pretty much looks like a lot of high school kids his age. I just can't get over his K to BB ratio at such a young age. Thoughts?

0 XBH. I loved Eduardo Escobar for his 24 AB hot streak for Great Falls last year and he walked twice to only 3 Ks. Granted, the walk rate isn't there, but there are other guys on that DSL roster putting up more impressive numbers. This guy you mentioned could just be a slap hitter with an eye. Who knows?

Does the DSL actually qualify as pro ball though? Isn't the level of competition weaker than college baseball?

The walks are good and everything, but the pitching isn't exactly that great. The DSL games would be fun to watch if there was a way to watch them, but the stats don't really tell anything. Lots of players have sick stats there and then you don't even see them in short season ball.
