And yes, the Padres were very happy to unload him with all of the injury/other concerns about him. But say he does come back in the spring and is god-awful. Then you have a lousy pitcher that you are paying $16 million to. From what I read, the insurance policy only kicks in after he misses a certain-number of days to start the season. This is why I would just as well see him take ot very slow and shoot for a mid season return.
