Basically Doctors noticed that in developing countries, expensive medical equipment would fail and there would not be any trained technicians to fix them. They designed this to replace a $40,000 version that was difficult to maintain. I used it as an example for my students of why I love to learn. Discovering a simple back-invented item like this I find really cool.
