IF we get to the playoffs,

Colon

Loaiza

Buerhle

Thats just about as good as the A's big three if not better. :headbang

It's definitely not better than the a's big 3 (4 really)

This year they're just as good, if not better.

In the regular season, its close. However, i prefer to choose history when evaluating players, and the oakland trio is much better. Not to mention, they have much more playoff experience. Really, its a no brainer.

Hmmm...I dunno. Colon alone might have as many playoff starts as Oakland's 3. Anyone have the stats?

If only he could start every game. ;)

Buehrle didn't pitch in the 2000 playoffs, right? And I'm sure Loaiza has never been in the playoffs, so Colon would be the only guy who's been there. But, if we manage to make it, I like our chances with our 3 headed monster.

Oh we can beat Oakland. Because of our offense. Their big 3 is better than ours.

Oakland has an offense?

You are correct

Personally I'd take our big three over the A's. I heard Mulder, Hudson, Zito are something like 0-6 in the playoffs. Colon is a bigtime pitcher and just has the look of an ace, Loaiza is the Cy Young in my book, and Buehrle is turning the season around. Colon and Loaiza are veterans, while the A's big three are still relatively young.

Sounds a lot like what was probably being said before our series with the M's in 2000. Our pitching was supposed to be our weak point, but our offense was going to make up for it. And we all know how that turned out.

That would be because youre a homer. If you polled objective fans, players and coaches. Oaklands big 3 would win by a wide margin.

Good points. I can't say I disagree.

Mainly because they have the big names.

No way in hell you take ours over the a's big three

I have to steal bmr's line, watch some baseball

No way in hell you take ours over the a's big three

And to steal Hawks line, I love it when you analyze ;)

But the problem isn't the starters {except the need for a quality fifth starter} but what's up with the bullpen? Soxs need to bring up Bajenaru from Birmingham. Look at his stats 52 innings, 52 Ks, and only 24 BB. He throws strikes!!!!!!!

24 walks in 52 IP isn't that great. That's actually kinda high. That's over 4 per 9 IP.

44 hits and 24 walks in 52.1 innings? That's a WHIP of 1.30.

No thanks.

Postseason stats:

Zito 2-1 2.28 ERA

Mulder 2-2 2.25 ERA

Hudson 1-2 3.41 ERA

Colon 2-2 3.28 ERA

Buehrle 0-0 0.00 ERA ( 1/3 inning pitched)

Loaiza 0-1 3.86 ERA pitched for Texas in 1999 against Yankees

I found these on baseball-reference.com,

Or maybe those people watch other games, other than sox games huh? :bang

Dude I've watched the Oakland guys pitch for a long time and I'm still sticking with our veterans. Theres no point in arguing, but it would still be some great matchups if we met them in the playoffs.

Dont make a fool of yourself. Evidence includes, but is not limited to, experience in the playoffs, stats in teh regular season and playoffs, talent, and overwhelming popular opinion. You are just wrong.

Ok, whatever you say.

Just to interject, public opinion isn't always very reliable. People have pretty much universally crowned Roy Halladay the Cy Young Award winner, yet he has just 2 more wins than Esteban Loaiza and an ERA of over a run higher, not to mention 3 full runs more of run support per start. :D

BTW, I've retrieved a family portrait of cw from when they had their yearly reunion at JWG's pad.
