August 7, 200322 yr AL CENTRAL: White Sox If the White Sox win the division, GM Ken Williams could challenge Epstein for Executive of the Year. Williams acquired Roberto Alomar, Carl Everett and Scott Schoeneweis when few believed in his club, and the Sox are a potentially dangerous postseason team. Their rotation would feature Bartolo Colon, Esteban Loaiza and a resurgent Mark Buehrle. And their hitters -- even Paul Konerko -- finally are hot. Heaven knows Royals GM Allard Baird is trying. He hit on Jose Lima; obtained relievers Curtis Leskanic, Graeme Lloyd and Al Levine at little cost, and positioned himself to acquire Juan Gonzalez if Gonzalez ever decides to leave Texas. The expected return of Mike Sweeney will help, but it would not be a shock if the Royals finished third behind the White Sox and Twins, who remain a hitter short even after acquiring Shannon Stewart.
