April 8, 201214 yr Just looked up and wanted to see what the Sox results were in the opening series for the last 12 seasons and how that correlated to the season finish and found some interesting things: Since 2000 the Sox have won exactly two opening series'. Last year (horrible season) and in 2005 (that was fun wasn't it?). They've lost every other opening day series (sans 2004 which had a weird 2 game series against KC which they split) including a sweep at the hands of those same Royals in 2003. What's funny is that in the two other seasons they've made the playoffs -- 2000 and 2008 -- they lost the first two games of the series and won the final game. I've always had the theory that winning the last game in a series is always a plus even if it's a series loss. Pretty interesting stuff. I totally didn't think those early results would show anything, but there is a bit of a pattern. Take out last season and it's really revealing...
